Hi readers,

This week, we’re not talking business.

Instead, Feline Business Brief would just like to wish you happy holidays, and share a brief note on some charities helping to take care of cats this winter.

What we’re watching

Myth: Pet insurance doesn’t cover everything

Many pet owners worry that insurance won’t cover everything, especially routine care or pre-existing conditions. While that’s true in many cases, most insurers now offer wellness add-ons for preventive care like vaccines, dental cleanings, and check-ups, giving you more complete coverage. View Money’s pet insurance list to find plans for as low as $10 a month.

Happy Holidays from Feline Business Brief

Feline Business Brief usually focuses on the business of cats. This Christmas week, we’re taking a moment to acknowledge the welfare side of the equation.

While this time of year is often filled with images of cosy warm homes and good cheer, circumstances can be very different for thousands of cats around the world.

In the UK, Cats Protection has taken in more than 26,000 abandoned cats in the last 12 months alone, including nearly 5,100 strays. The charity has noted a 71% increase in abandoned cats in the last three years.

Across the world, cat charities and sanctuaries are dealing with sustained pressure while carrying out vital frontline work. If you’re looking for organisations making a tangible difference, here are some we admire:

Alley Cat Allies (USA & worldwide): Advocates for humane care and Trap-Neuter-Return to manage feral populations and improve cat welfare.

Celia Hammond Animal Trust (UK): Provides essential low-cost veterinary services for sick and injured pets, and finds new homes for cats.

Cats and Kitten Rescue (UK): A personal note: Feline Business Brief’s newsroom cats, Morag and Ethel, were adopted from this organisation 13 years ago.

We’ll return to business as usual next week. Until then, wishing you a happy holiday (and extra pets for your own cats 🐱).
